When it rains, it pours. That’s how the weather’s been in Atlanta this week. It’s as though Mother Nature went on vacation and forgot to turn the water off before she left so the rain just keeps pouring down! Since I’ve been feeling like Rihanna living under my umbrella I practically ran for cover at Atlanta’s first Umbrella Street event at the W Atlanta – Midtown on Thursday night.
Now, when I first heard “Umbrella Street” I instantly thought of the infamous Ágitagueda art festival, where hundreds of umbrellas form a whimiscal canopy over the streets of Águeda, Portugal. Well, this isn’t Portugal folks and this Umbrella Street is indoors. But, it’s a great night out for locals and visitors alike with delicious food, live music, art installations and other entertainment.
Truthfully, I wasn’t that hungry when I arrived at the W. However, I really appreciated the complimentary appetizers they passed around. Hungry or not- I made sure to devour the complimentary Plantain Foster dessert 😍 Please eat this. It will make you appreciate life so much more!
Tip: this event is a great date night idea (that’s what I did). However, I definitely recommend that you opt to order from the Living Room’s full menu vs. relying on free apps. Nobody looks cute being the guy or girl who basically hoards all the free appetizers. Don’t be that person. Please.
It was nice to receive a complimentary drink for the night, appropriately named “Ella Ella A.”
The W partnered with Veuve, Sam Adams, and Belvedere so the bar served $8 Umbrella themed cocktail specials, $12 Veuve by the glass, $6 Beers, and of course a full bar was available.
Tip: Consider using Uber or Lyft if you really want to get your drink on.
I don’t know about you, but for me, an event isn’t complete without great music. I love that the W Atlanta Midtown team provided multiple musical tastes for discerning music connoisseurs.
There was live music from The Voice’s Nick Hagelin (he’s awesome check out his Spotify), Orlando Williams on sax (equally awesome), and an Elevate silent disco party – you wear a pair of headphones and can select the music you want to listen too. Needless to say, I was getting my dance on in the corner as bae lovingly rolled his eyes 💃🏽
If you love handmade art (calling all Etsy fanatics) be sure to check out the local artists showcasing their various creations. For me the absolute highlight of the night was the Atlanta inspired mural on the patio. It was done by local artist Isaac Stout. It literally screams Atlanta in every possible way.
