Planta Reminds Us That Plant-Based Restaurants Are Definitely Here To Stay
When most people hear the words “vegan restaurant,” or “plant-based restaurants,” they usually roll their eyes immediately thinking that all the dishes are made out of tofu.
Planta, a trendy plant-based restaurant with locations in South Beach Miami, Florida and Toronto, Ontario reminds us that plants are in with an innovative menu that stretches far beyond just tofu. A number of plant-based restaurants are popping up and Planta is here to stay.
DECOR:
First, let’s talk about the decor. I visited Planta Toronto and it definitely has more of an L.A. vibe. It’s upscale, bright and beautifully decorated.
The ceilings were very tall, which was a breath of fresh air considering that so many restaurants in urban cities are located in dark basements.
My friend and I were greeted by an upbeat and friendly hostess and quickly escorted to our table.
The Plant-Based Menu:
Planta has rolled out an outstanding plant-based menu that those on plant-based diets and those who could care less about vegan options will both enjoy.
With mouth-watering appetizers, fabulous salads and delicious entrees, the Planta menu serves up culinary variety for every taste.
I opted to try the Planta burger, which is fully loaded with queso, mushroom bacon, pickles, tomatillo mayo and served with spiced fries. It was A-MAZING!
If you’d prefer not to eat your veggies you can get your fill by drinking your greens. Planta offers cold-pressed juices (and juice shooters), including the orange and carrot-based, Rise & Shine, or the beet and pineapple-based Planta Punch, which is what I had along with the cucumber and apple-based, Field of Greens. Yes, I was thirsty 🙂
We ordered several items to share so that we could get a broader taste for the menu.
The Italian Job – Tomato sauce, cashew mozzarella, farro, fennel, roasted garlic, mushrooms topped this pizza.
The Truffle Fries – truffled almond parmesan, lemon garlic aïoli.
WAIT! Anytime I hear the words “truffle” my ‘hands go up, and they stay there’ ~ DJ Khaled. The fries did not have a chance, they were devoured in record time, and I actually contemplated ordering some to take home. If you love fries – ORDER THESE! You’ll thank me later.
DESSERT:
We didn’t get a chance to sample dessert, not because we didn’t want to- TRUST ME dessert is what I do! But we were running late for a meeting so didn’t have time for sweets. Next time I dine at Planta it’s a must that I get the Brownie with Ice Cream.
Plant-based eating is more than just a trend. More and more people are choosing to reduce their animal product intake, including myself, and restaurants like Planta make it easier.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
Overall I give this place two “thumbs up.” The restaurant is a little on the pricey side, but definitely, a nice spot. As one who frequently dines at plant-based establishments, I found the portions sizes satisfying, the food delicious and loved the staff who served us. Even my meat-eating friend enjoyed his meal.
Still wondering what to order, check out the full menu.
I already know what I want to try on my next visit;
- The Queso Dip
- Cauliflower Tots
- The Quinoa Tartare
- The Lettuce Wraps
If you have tried any of these please let me know in the comments below.
Have you been to any good plant-based restaurants lately? Or are you trying to eat a more plant-based diet?

I’ll be in South Beach in December for Art Basel and would LOVE to come and check this out as I am “almost vegan.” 100% agree that plant based restaurants are here to stay, as a plant based diet is one of the most sustainable diets you can have!!!
Bookmarking this page too, so I don’t forget about Planta! xoxo

I tried eating as a vegetarian for about a month up at school. Doing this made me feel good about not eating animal meat, but I struggled to eat my greens. I found myself eating a lot of carbs and what not. I think I would love to try out being vegetarian again, but I think I would have to do it at a more stable part of my life because I struggle with willpower! I enjoyed reading this post I wish there was a Planta restaurant near me so I could try it out!

The food looks amazing! I will have to try this place out if I am ever near one of it’s locations. I’m glad to know they offer a variety of food on the menu.

We have been trying to add more plants into our diet and less animal products, I always feel better and have more energy when I do. I have not found any good restaurants in our area, I’ll have to keep looking. Thanks for the recommendation!

Looks delish! I wish more plant based restaurants near me would focus on showcasing the plants more. I love eating vegetarian but I HATE tofu and seitan. I want a veggie restaurant that just showcases amazing things you can do with veggies! Ahhh well, that’s what I get for living in the boonies.

I too am not a huge fan of tofu and seitan, so anything veggie based I’m all in for. Hopefully a plant-based spot will pop up in your area soon 🙂

Oooh their food looks so amazing. I try to stick to a plant-based diet and sometimes it can be really tricky to stay on diet when out an about. It’s definitely becoming more accessible nowadays. I hope lots of lovely restaurants like that one will pop up all over the world!
