Make sure your bank account is solid because Lonely Planet has revealed its list of the 10 best countries to visit in 2019. Without further ado, here are the 10 countries they think travelers should visit in 2019.
- Sri Lanka
- Sao Tome & Principe
SRI LANKA was never a place I thought about visiting until about two years ago. I ran into a friend who had just come back from Sri Lanka and she had nothing but great things to say about the country. I immediately jumped on Google and was blown away. Gal Vihara – a group of beautiful Buddha images caught my attention and this country has been on my bucket list ever since.
GERMANY I’ve technically been to Germany a few times as I’ve connected through Frankfurt and Munich on a number of occasions. However, you can’t really visit a country if you never leave the airport right?! With a vibrant arts scene and strong history, I’d love to visit the capital city of Berlin. Seeing the Berlin Wall in person is a definite travel goal for me since this concrete barrier physically and ideologically divided Berlin for so many years.
ZIMBABWE definitely intrigues me as one of the 10 best countries to visit in 2019. Having been to one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls, I can’t wait to venture back to the continent of Africa one day soon and explore Zimbabwe.
PANAMA is another country that’s popping up on a few where to travel in 2019 lists. I’ve wanted to take a journey to this country for a few years now after meeting a group of Panamians at a street festival. They told me all about the vibrant streets of the old town of Panama City and the delicious cultural food.
KYRGYZSTAN has never been a country that I’ve thought about venturing off to. However, I’m a changed woman after reading up on central Asian country. I definitely see why it made Lonely Planet’s list. The countryside looks stunning with lots of trekking routes throughout. Google for yourself to see why Kyrgyzstan is one of the 10 best countries to visit in 2019.
JORDAN is a country I was supposed to visit a few years ago. Unfortunately, something came up and my plans changed. Needless to say, I still have a strong desire to visit this country. I really want to visit the Dead Sea, which is the lowest spot on earth, and most mineral-laden body of water in the world.
INDONESIA is already on my 2019 travel list! I’m heading to Bali and can’t wait to explore this beautiful country. Water resorts are my jam so I’m super excited to be heading to Bali in 2019. I’ve also heard so many wonderful things about the people, food, and culture.
BELARUS is a country that I really don’t have a desire to visit. But hey, different strokes for different folks, right? Maybe one day I’ll do some more research on this country and change my mind.
SAO TOME & PRINCIPE isn’t one of the top African countries I want to visit. However, its tropical waters and near-empty beaches are definitely calling my inner wanderlust. But for now, it’s not on my where to go in 2019 list.
BELIZE has been on my bucket list for a few years now. With rich marine life, jungles, Mayan ruins, and so much natural beauty I hope to cross this country off my list soon. English is the official language making it a great option for those who prefer to avoid language barriers while traveling.
So, there you have it, folks. The top 10 best countries to visit in 2019 according to Lonely Planet.

Clearly, I need to stop eating out so often and save up a few dollars so I can step up my 2019 travel game.
