I’m a big fan of clean eating, but when I don’t have time to make a full meal first thing in the morning I rely on green smoothies. Green smoothies may not look appealing, but don’t fear the colour, I promise these green smoothie recipes taste great and give you all of the benefits at the same time!
BUILDING YOUR SMOOTHIE
Let’s break down what you need to make the perfect green smoothie! There are a few steps depending on what’s in the fridge and what your taste buds are craving for. I recommend that smoothies be equal portions of greens and fruit to maximize nutrients. If you’re an avid green smoothie drinker like myself, you can add more leafy greens and fewer fruits to keep the sugars on the lower end.
The first thing you need to do is pick your greens base. Once you’ve got your base it’s time to increase the nutrient factor.

My favorite smoothies usually include a combination of spinach, parsley, and kale. After you’ve chosen your green base, next, add your fruits.
FRUITS
-Strawberries
-Blueberries
-Blackberries
-Pinapple
-Mango
-Banana

-Kiwi
-Apple
If you’re looking for something on the sweeter side, add pineapple or banana to your smoothie. If you’re looking to keep the sugars on the lower end, stick to strawberries, blueberries or raspberries, these also have major antioxidant potential.
HEALTHY FATS
Now we can’t forget the healthy fats. Healthy fats add energy, stabilize the blood sugar, and just make things taste better. Smoothies, when made correctly can fill you up really quickly. One of the reason why some people may feel hungry shortly after drinking a smoothie for breakfast is because they failed to add enough healthy fats and protein to their smoothie!

GREEN SMOOTHIE EXTRS ADD-INS
I listed the major ingredients above, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add a few more of your favourite ingredients to your smoothie! There are a number of other items you can try in your green smoothie. Here are a few add-in suggestions:
-Greek yogurt
-Nuts
– Spices ( Turmeric, cinnamon, Cayanne pepper )
-Protein powder
-Fresh herbs
-Chia Seeds
-Hemp Seeds
-Flax Seeds
When I want to include some protein powder in my smoothies I use Sun Warrior protein powder. I like Sun Warrior powder because its mainly rice protein powder. This protein powder gives me all the energy I need for the day, keeps me full, and balances my blood sugar. And the best part, it’s sugar-free!
THE PERFECT GREEN SMOOTHIE
1 cup spinach
A small handful of blueberries and blackberries
4-5 Strawberries
1 small banana
1/2 cup of kale
1 scoop Sunwarrior Warrior Blend
1 tbsp raw organic coconut oil
1 tbsp raw almond butter
1 tsp chia seeds
Blend and enjoy!
