The American Express Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong is just under 2 years old and it’s been a good addition to the AMEX lounge network. The Amex Platinum Card, the Amex Business Platinum Card, or the Centurion card is your key to getting into any Centurion Lounge.
Travelling back home from Mumbai my connection is in Hong Kong. I have 5 hours before my flight to Toronto and thus plenty of time to sit down and relax before my long flight. The American Express Centurion Lounge is quite a distance from the airport;s entrance. It took walking, a few escalator rides and the tram to get to the lounge. But it was worth it.
Blue glass doors slide open upon entering and a welcome agent greeted me with a smile. Swiping my American Express Platinum card she informed me of the Wi-Fi password and told me to enjoy my stay.
AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTURION LOUNGE CONFERENCE ROOM
As I walked into the lounge past the membership desk, on the right is a conference room and a small seating area. This section is perfect for business travelers.
AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTURION LOUNGE DINNING AREA
The lounge is an open space design. American Express partnered with mixologist Jim Meehan to create the cocktail menu which features 9 exclusive cocktails for this lounge.
AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTURION LOUNGE EATS AND DRINKS
The lounge has excellent views across the tarmac and natural light flows into the lounge in the afternoon. The buffet, adjacent to the bar, features a nice selection of cold and hot foods.
AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTURION LOUNGE INSIDE OF THE LOUNGE
There’s an extra section of the lounge that Centurion cardmembers, though not Platinum cardmembers, have access to. The menu there is designed by Chef Lau Yiu Fai of Yan Toh Heen at the Intercontinental Hong Kong, with a wider drink menu than the rest of the lounge. I am a Platinum card member, not a centurion member so unfortunately I have no access to this area.
AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTURION LOUNGE SHOWERS
Located behind the bar area are the men’s and women’s bathrooms as well as two shower suites. As a frequent traveler, being able to shower in-between flights feels so good so I love that this lounge had shower suites for their guests.
The downside for me is the uncomfortable seating. The welcome agent did mention the seating prior to me entering. The lounge does not have any leather lounge chairs, instead it has plastic and metal chairs. But what they lacked in seating they made up in other ways.
The Centurion Lounge at HKG is worth a visit before your next flight. The food is delicious, the availability of showers in the restroom, and the complimentary cocktails makes this a great lounge for any traveler. As business travel continues to grow, more airlines have been catering to their business clients. This has led to more pre-flight luxury spaces and lounges. The Cathay Pacific’s lounges in HKG is amazing. But the Centurion Lounge allows American Express Platinum holders to enter with two additional guests complimentary. If you’re not travelling alone the Centurion Lounge will be the best lounge to visit on your next stop in Hong Kong.
